Cash Flow Challenges for the USS Hornet Museum

Prior to September 11, 2001 the Hornet Foundation averaged an annual net profit of $200,000. This allowed our foundation to maintain its mission as well as to pay down the expenses of refurbishing this National Historic Landmark by over $600,000 from the general fund operations. However, due to the loss of revenue from the Dot Com businesses, the tragedy of 9/11, and the current economic recession, our major sources of revenue generated from admissions, ship’s store, and conferences / events decreased by 25-30%. This short fall has created a negative cash flow situation whereby we may not be able to remain in operation much longer without some financial assistance.

Your Assisance Needed

The Hornet Foundation has worked diligently for many months to garner a large grant, which may be available in October. In addition, we have an initiative to ramp-up our weekend live-aboard program for youth. The combination of these initiatives, if successful, could move the Foundation in the appropriate direction to once again become financially self-sufficient. However, we are in immediate need of $50,000 to $100,000 in donations to finance the daily operations of the Museum for the next few months.

Please help us to keep this community project and National Historic Landmark by sending your donation to:

Our Mission

The mission of the Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation is threefold: (1) preserve the history and legacy of the USS Hornet by transforming her into a world class museum (2) use the USS Hornet as a event center for private, commercial and community events, and (3) enable the USS Hornet to serve as an educational platform for naval history, science and space.

The Hornet team can report that the appearance of our ship, due to the high quality of our restoration and maintenance effort, brings pride to the community as well as to the Veterans who gallantly served aboard. Our Big Band dances, live-aboard experiences for youth, group tours and school field-trip programs are a few of the reasons why Hornet has made a positive impact in the community.

Thank you for your support to help us preserve this magnificent and authentic tribute to our American Heritage!
