Join us in honoring the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (442 RCT) and its rescue of the “Lost Battalion” as we host a special presentation at 1:00pm in Hangar Bay 3. The 442 RCT, formed in 1943, was a segregated U.S. Army unit composed mostly of second generation Japanese-American soldiers. It became a formidable and well-respected fighting unit—“Go For Broke” was its motto. In October 1944, the 442 RCT rescued the 1st Battalion of the 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, when it became surrounded and trapped by German forces in the Vosges Mountains, France. The 442 RCT did this when rescue attempts by other units failed repeatedly. Four special guest speakers will present different aspects of this compelling story.
