The USS Hornet Museum offers a variety of family and patriotic events throughout the year. Check this calendar often for updates.

Come Aboard

DISCOUNTED GENERAL ADMISSION DEAL COUPONS (such as Groupon, etc) are NOT valid for special events. Full admission prices will be charged at those times if you choose to attend these events, and any coupons presented will be returned for use on another day. Before traveling to the museum to redeem your coupon, please check the calendar listing below for special events that are exempt from discounted coupons.

Any requests for a coupon refund must be made directly to the organization who issued the coupon and from whom you purchased it. Coupons are NOT redeemable for cash nor credit at the museum. Coupons are valid ONLY for general admission (excluding Federal holidays) to the Museum during regular museum hours, 10:00am-5:00pm.

They cannot be used as payment for any group or individual tour, any overnight experience, or any special event (public or private) or program that is available for purchase on the USS Hornet Museum.

For your safety and the security of the Museum, ALL BAGS larger than 12” x 8” x 12” are NOT permitted. This includes backpacks, camera bags, tote bags, diaper bags, ladies purses, etc. Visitors will be asked to return backpacks and large bags to their vehicle. To accommodate visitors arriving by public transportation, there is a limited supply of rentable lockers. Please note: for safety reasons, backpack-style infant carriers are also not permitted.

Tuesday, November 11, 2014 – Veterans Day & Special Event
The Museum will host a special Veterans Day with two notable events: the annual service at 11:00am with commemorative wreath-toss; and activities honoring Carrier Air Group 11, one of the heroic fighter squadrons that flew from the USS Hornet CVS-12 during WWII. Surviving members of Air Group 11 will be special guests for a panel discussion and meet & greet following the ceremony. At 1:00pm, a new exhibit featuring the group will be opened.

A special evening event offered will be a reception and the premier screening at 7:30pm of the new documentary film “Eleven” — a moving and fascinating new film about surviving Air Group 11 members. The reception will be held from 6:00pm–7:00pm, and the public will have the opportunity to meet the film’s director, George Retelas, and some of the featured Air Group 11 members. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 – Flight Simulator Closed
The Flight Simulator will be closed to the public due to its yearly state inspection. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Wednesday, December 31, 2014 – New Year’s Eve Gala
Back by popular demand, we have 3 O’Clock Jump, a 17-piece big band. Swing, cha cha, and dance the night away! Need to brush up on your dancing? We have free dance lessons by Jim Truesdale, former Fred Astaire dance instructor, and lots of entertainment throughout the evening. The party begins at 8:00 pm and ends at 1:00 am on January 1, 2015. Go to the flight deck at midnight (weather permitting) and watch the Bay Area Fireworks. What a unique way to spend New Year’s Eve! Splashdown 2009
The USS Hornet Museum held a 4-day festival celebrating the 40th Anniversary  of the Apollo 11 moon landing… and recovery.
