Come Aboard

DISCOUNTED GENERAL ADMISSION DEAL COUPONS (such as Groupon, etc) are NOT valid for special events. Full admission prices will be charged at those times if you choose to attend these events, and any coupons presented will be returned for use on another day. Before traveling to the museum to redeem your coupon, please check the calendar listing below for special events that are exempt from discounted coupons.

Any requests for a coupon refund must be made directly to the organization who issued the coupon and from whom you purchased it. Coupons are NOT redeemable for cash nor credit at the museum. Coupons are valid ONLY for general admission (excluding Federal holidays) to the Museum during regular museum hours, 10:00am-5:00pm.

They cannot be used as payment for any group or individual tour, any overnight experience, or any special event (public or private) or program that is available for purchase on the USS Hornet Museum.

For your safety and the security of the Museum, ALL BAGS larger than 12” x 8” x 12” are NOT permitted. This includes backpacks, camera bags, tote bags, diaper bags, ladies purses, etc. Visitors will be asked to return backpacks and large bags to their vehicle. To accommodate visitors arriving by public transportation, there is a limited supply of rentable lockers. Please note: for safety reasons, backpack-style infant carriers are also not permitted.

Saturday, February 28, 2015 STEM Educators Open House
Join instructors from the STEM Office of the United States Naval Academy and the USS Hornet Museum for this teacher training event from 1:00pm–4:00pm. Get new ideas for project-based learning and hands-on activities for topics such as electrochemistry, materials science, and fluid mechanics. Peek at the spaces on the ship used in the Museum’s education programs to demonstrate and explain classroom STEM concepts – with a historical twist! Saturday, March 21, 2015 Living Ship Day: Guarding Churchill and Monty
Join the USS Hornet Museum as we welcome retired Royal Military Police Warrant Officer Danny Mander. He will share firsthand accounts about being Winston Churchill’s personal bodyguard at the Tehran Conference in 1943 during World War II. This was a strategy meeting held between Joseph Stalin (Soviet Union), Franklin D. Roosevelt (United States), and Winston Churchill (United Kingdom), all of the "Big Three" Allied leaders. He also served with famed British General Bernard Montgomery as a security officer in North Africa during the British fight against legendary German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, aka “The Desert Fox.”

Hornet Chaplain John Berger conducts church services at 11:00am in the ship's Chapel. All hands and guests are welcome.

• New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)
Interested in helping with airplanes, restoration, security, tours, events, or admin assistance? Orientation is held the first Saturdays each month, 9:30-11:30am.

Splashdown 2009
The USS Hornet Museum held a 4-day festival celebrating the 40th Anniversary  of the Apollo 11 moon landing… and recovery. Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin and personnel from the recovery team were onboard for this tremendous event. Visit our official Splashdown 2009 page to see the event overview and photos.
