The USS Hornet Museum offers a variety of family and patriotic events throughout the year. Check this calendar often for updates.

Come Aboard

DISCOUNTED GENERAL ADMISSION DEAL COUPONS (such as Groupon, etc) are NOT valid for special events. Full admission prices will be charged at those times if you choose to attend these events, and any coupons presented will be returned for use on another day. Before traveling to the museum to redeem your coupon, please check the calendar listing below for special events that are exempt from discounted coupons.

Any requests for a coupon refund must be made directly to the organization who issued the coupon and from whom you purchased it. Coupons are NOT redeemable for cash nor credit at the museum. Coupons are valid ONLY for general admission (excluding Federal holidays) to the Museum during regular museum hours, 10:00am-5:00pm.

They cannot be used as payment for any group or individual tour, any overnight experience, or any special event (public or private) or program that is available for purchase on the USS Hornet Museum.

For your safety and the security of the Museum, ALL BAGS larger than 12” x 8” x 12” are NOT permitted. This includes backpacks, camera bags, tote bags, diaper bags, ladies purses, etc. Visitors will be asked to return backpacks and large bags to their vehicle. To accommodate visitors arriving by public transportation, there is a limited supply of rentable lockers. Please note: for safety reasons, backpack-style infant carriers are also not permitted.

Saturday, April 19, 2014 Living Ship Day: A Navy Major’s Memoirs of USS Hornet CV-8 & the Doolittle Raid
The USS Hornet Museum will commemorate the anniversary of the Doolittle Raid by featuring a very special speaker, author and veteran LCDR USN Richard J. Nowatzki. Nowatzki served on the USS Hornet (CV-8) at the time of the Doolittle Raid. Experience an aircraft carrier in action! Witness simulated flight operations; participate in mission briefings; sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet! Discounted admission coupons (Groupon, etc) are valid for this event.

Friday, July 4, 2014 – July Fourth Celebration
Celebrate July 4th on board the authentic Aircraft Carrier USS Hornet. This is an all-day party with five live bands performing on the flight deck, free kids games, and self-guided tours of the ship. Food, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages will be available for sale. Good view of the San Francisco fireworks from our flight deck. For more information, call 510-521-8448 x 282.

Saturday, October 25, 2014 – Monster’s Ball
Is the USS Hornet Haunted? Come aboard and find out and find out! The Bone 107.7 FM and USS Hornet Museum present this annual fundraiser onboard the “Grey Ghost.” A Hornet favorite band, The Cocktail Monkeys, will rock the house, and visitors will get a good fright throughout the evening with haunted tours and a costume contest featuring a $500 cash prize awarded to the best dressed. Kids are welcome; we will have a children’s costume contest at 9:25pm. Doors open at 7:30pm. The Bone will also provide other entertainment. Keep checking our website for updates. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 – New Year’s Eve Gala
Back by popular demand, we have 3 O’Clock Jump, a 17-piece big band. Swing, cha cha, and dance the night away! Need to brush up on your dancing? We have free dance lessons and lots of entertainment throughout the evening. The party begins at 8:00 pm and ends at 1:00 am on January 1, 2015. Go to the flight deck at midnight (weather permitting) and watch the Bay Area Fireworks. What a unique way to spend New Year’s Eve! We have lots of free parking and security. Splashdown 2009
The USS Hornet Museum held a 4-day festival celebrating the 40th Anniversary  of the Apollo 11 moon landing… and recovery. Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin and personnel from the recovery team were onboard for this tremendous event. Visit our official Splashdown 2009 page to see the event overview and photos.
