Sponsorship

Corporate Sponsorship

The USS Hornet Museum is a nonprofit organization that relies on a variety of funding sources for its exhibits and programs. The Museum is not supported in any way by regular grants from city, county, state or federal sources. Although some of our costs are covered by revenue generating activities, sponsorships are required to assist with exhibit development, education programs, and to keep prices affordable for families.

Sponsorship Benefits

The USS Hornet Museum can provide various promotional opportunities for companies who would like to partner with us on our special events.

We promote our events throughout Northern California via print, radio, television, web media, and communications to the members of all participating organizations. Events are also promoted nationally through several key publications.

Sponsors can have their companies listed on various collateral including posters, flyers, mailers, and event programs. To help drive traffic to our partners’ websites, hyperlinks can be posted on the Hornet website and in our electronic newsletter.

The ship provides a great platform for displaying company banners. Sponsors may also be invited to set up informational booths on the hangar deck of the ship or on the pier.

Have other ideas? The USS Hornet Museum can create a custom package for your business.

Next Sponsorship Opportunity

Apollo 11th Anniversary, July 23-26, 2009

In 1969, the USS Hornet recovered the first two NASA missions that landed men on the moon – Apollo 11 and Apollo 12. The aircraft carrier Hornet is the largest surviving artifact from these incredible events. As the premiere sea, air, and space museum in the San Francisco Bay Area, the USS Hornet Museum will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of these space missions with a festival called “Splashdown 2009.”

Splashdown 2009 represents the four-day recovery process of the Apollo 11 mission, starting with the departure from the moon to the ocean recovery. The festival will emphasize early NASA space programs of the 1960s and the “race to the moon,” with particular emphasis on the role played by the US Navy in the ocean-based spacecraft recovery activities.

The USS Hornet Museum is inviting organizations to join us in celebrating this momentous occassion. During a four-day period, Splashdown 2009 is expected to draw over 3,500 visitors in all age ranges from the greater Bay Area and Northern California. The event is also expected to attract national attention.

Buzz Aldrin to Appear!

The Splashdown 2009 schedule will include opportunities for visitors to meet naval personnel and key participants in the Apollo space program including special guest Buzz Aldrin -- the 2nd man to walk on the moon and Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 11. Following his speaking engagement on the USS Hornet, Buzz will be available to sign his exciting new book, "Magnificent Desolation: The Long Road Home from the Moon".

Other family activities will include panel discussions, workshops with the Astro Wizard, a portable planetarium, moon rock displays, and interactive exhibits.

Information Updates

The USS Hornet Museum continues to pursue additional noted speakers on a variety of space-related topics as well as seek additional activities to be added to the event schedule. Sponsors and participants can look for updated information on the official Splashdown 2009 web page.
