Come aboard USS Hornet with Kraken Con for a day of cosplay and high-seas adventure–we’re taking over the ship! Activities and amenities include:

  • Photo Ops on board with Historic Aircraft
  • A Cosplay Contest
  • An Orienteering Game on the Flight Deck
  • Anime Screening
  • Food and Drink Concessions
  • A Raffle Contest to benefit the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum
  • With more to come!

The Museum is also opening its most exclusive spaces with the All-Access Pass! This ticket upgrade will grant you access to fantastic and unique backdrops like Combat Information Center, the Captain’s Bridge, the Ship’s Jail, some of the ship’s creepiest passageways, and more!

Proceeds from the event go to supporting the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum, a National and State Historic Landmark whose service spanned from WWII to the recoveries of the Apollo 11 and 12 astronauts!

Buy your All Access Pass now! Price will go up to a $10 upgrade the day of the event!

Please Note! The City of Alameda will also be hosting a marathon Sunday morning, so, if you are planning on arriving before Noon, we strongly recommend the following driving directions to ensure a smooth arrival!

If you arrive in Alameda via the Webster Tunnel in Oakland (see map below):

  1. Continue onto Webster St.
  2. Turn right on Lincoln Ave.
  3. Lincoln Ave. will lead to a slight right via Marshall Way onto Pacific Ave.
  4. Turn left onto Central Ave.
  5. Turn right onto W Oriskany Ave.
  6. Continue down to the end of Ferry Point Rd. to reach the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum!

If you arrive in Alameda via the Park St. Bridge, Fruitvale Railroad Bridge, High St. Bridge, or Doolittle Dr. Bridge, make your way onto Lincoln Ave. then continue on the directions above starting at #3.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Museum has free parking at the base of the pier. Click here for driving directions.

Public transportation is limited and likely will require calling a Lyft/Uber/taxi to complete the trip to the Museum. As advance notice, Alameda Point will also be hosting a half marathon on this day, while there are no street closures guests may experience traffic delays due to runners from 10 AM – 10:30 AM.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

We recommend that you do bring your printed ticket for proof of purchase.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends?

It is okay if you transfer your ticket to another person–the name does not have to match.

The Museum is a National and State Historic Landmark, and as such retains its original steep stairs throughout the ship. Those guests who are mobility impaired will only have access to the main Hangar Deck and can access the Flight Deck if they are able to stand upright for a short time (going up and down an escalator).

Cosplay Day Policies:

All functioning bags (regardless if part of a cosplay or not) must meet bag size restrictions of 12”x8”x12”. A bag check area will be provided outside of the USS Hornet Museum by Kraken Con staff.

All clothing and costumes must be appropriate under Alameda County and California public decency laws and all private parts must be covered – no nudity allowed. There should be no chance of slippage or gaps. Additionally:

  1. Shoes must be worn at all times. Comfortable shoes are recommended as staircases can be steep and the ship is large, requiring a lot of walking. It may be difficult to walk in heels!
    2. Undergarments of any kind (bras, panties, boxers, etc) should not be visible.
    3. Skirts/shorts should completely cover the derriere.
    4. Tops should not be so low cut as to reveal undergarments or excessive décolletage.
    5. Bare midriff is allowed as long as the rest of the outfit conforms to all other listed requirements.
    6. Topless or open shirt cosplay is not permissible.
    7. Cosplay involving one-piece Japanese bathing suits (sukumizu) may be worn under other clothing and revealed for photos only.
    8. While military uniforms and costumes inspired by the military – both the US and abroad – are welcomed, please refrain from wearing swastikas or other Nazi party regalia.

  1. All props must be under 6’4” in height and 48” in width. Non-functioning bags (cannot be opened or used to store items) are considered props and must meet these requirements as well. Exceptions may be made for modular props which can be taken apart and put back together.
    2. All props must be examined by Kraken Con staff for safety and tagged at the peacebonding station prior to entering the museum. Real weapons, props that are too realistic, or props that are deemed dangerous will not be permitted.
  2. Props must be carried carefully and in a neutral position, especially in crowded areas. Long or tall props are to be carried vertically and swords or guns should be holstered or otherwise secured.
  3. Misuse of any prop will result in immediate revocation of privileges. Props are not to be used in a threatening manner towards any person.

  1. Functional weapons are not allowed. Weapon props created out of plastic, cardboard, foam or other such materials are permissible provided they are not too realistic in appearance. Airsoft guns (even if non-functional), replica guns, swords with metal and other weapons that have metal components are not allowed. Please note all props must conform to the aforementioned height/width dimensions.
