Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary

Join us in honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice at Pearl Harbor, America’s entry into World War II. Hear stories from the heroes of the Greatest Generation including a soldier of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, carrier pilots, World War II sailors, and more!


Pearl Harbor Day 75th Anniversary Event aboard the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum

Some of the speakers include:

Lawson Sakai 442 vet & 4-time purple heart recipient.

Dean ‘Diz’ Laird the only Naval aviator to become an ace in both theaters.

Capt Dave Campbell was a B-24 bomber pilot assigned to 530th Squadron of the 380th Bombardment Group and operated in the South West and Western Pacific areas in WWII. He flew 10 missions before the end of the war in 1945 and later became a flight instructor for Pan American Airlines after the war.

Tommie Simpson, WAVE woman and WWII veteran. 

 Eldon Brodie, a WWII veteran who was a teenager when the attack happened and served as a Gunners Mate in the Navy.

 David Perlman, “at 97 literally the dean of American journalism. He’s the Chronicle’s science editor and works full time. On Dec. 7, 1941, he was sent to the Chronicle roof with a phone that was rigged with a very long cord to watch for Japanese planes. He served in the Army, worked of the International Herald Tribune and returned to the Chronicle in 1951.”
