Hornet’s Escape Room Experiences

The Hornet Museum offers several escape room-type experiences that showcase the ship’s spaces and feature different aspects of the ship’s history and reputation.

ONE SPY. ONE HOUR. ONE CHANCE.

It’s 1957 aboard USS Hornet. We’re in the height of the Cold War between America and the USSR. Hornet’s about to dock at NAS Alameda and we’re looking forward to familiar soil but news just got out that confidential information was stolen from us here in Combat Information Center, or CIC.

We’ve identified a briefcase among the luggage leaving the ship no one is claiming that must contain the stolen information. We need to get inside it without being seen to replace it with false intel. This is where you come in.

Gather your team; your best and brightest.

We’re going to need all the help you can get.

Cost: $30 per person

Time: 1 Hour (with approximately 15 minutes of introduction and another 10 of conclusion)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Espionage Escape?

Espionage Escape is an Escape Room experience produced by the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum. Set during the Cold War, Espionage Escape invites guests of groups of 4-6 players the opportunity to complete various exciting and challenging puzzles to identify and thwart the spy.

What is an Escape Room?

An Escape Room is an adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and challenges using clues, hints, and strategy to complete the required objectives. Players are given a set time limit to unveil the spy and complete the mission, all the answers to which are hidden within the information given to them. Our Escape Room is a primarily tabletop game to help contain the area with relevant information.

Are guests actually locked in a room?

No. Our Escape Room is a simulated experience. Players will be primarily at a table on Hornet’s Hangar Deck level, which is a large open space on the ship.

What is the Cost of Espionage Escape?

The cost of the program is $30 per person, with discounts available for Hornet Museum Members. Discounts are also available to add this program to a private event rental–for more information contact events@uss-hornet.org!

Is it safe? Are there any age limits?

Our Escape Room players are monitored at all times by Museum staff. There are some inherent trip hazards being in a historic landmark but nothing has been designed to physically challenge the player or cause physical discomfort.

Our Escape Room experience is designed for teens and adults and recommended for guests 12 and older simply because of the complexity of the puzzles and the excitement of being timed. Players under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

How long does the experience take?

Players will have one hour to finish Espionage Escape but the entire escape room experience takes approximately 90 minutes from start to finish when including check-in and the introduction.

How many players can participate in Espionage Escape?

Our Escape Room experience can accommodate up to 6 players per table. We recommend having 4-6 players for an optimal playing experience.

Are there any physical restrictions or limitations?

Due to its historic nature, USS Hornet does have physical restrictions. Guests should expect to climb steep stairs to board the ship though a lift can be made available to transfer those with mobility impairments to the play area with advanced notice. Those who have claustrophobia, epilepsy, stroke, or severe anxiety issues should, however, exercise caution before participating in this escape room experience.
