October 2018- July 2019

The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum welcomes you aboard for an extended celebration of the Apollo Program in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11, Man’s first steps on the Moon!

USS Hornet recovered the Apollo 11 astronauts from the Pacific after their splashdown on July 24, 1969 and now in 2018-2019 we are celebrating this  historic event with events and programming throughout the upcoming year!

Splashdown Exhibit

The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum has permanent exhibitions exploring the Space Race and Hornet’s role in the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 missions.

Splashdown 50 Passport Program

Our Passport Program is free to all guests! If you visit during any one of our Splashdown 50 events, visit our information booth to pick up your very own Splashdown 50 Passport! Every event you attend will earn you an additional passport stamp in your booklet and will get you a step closer to earning fun rewards!

  • 6 Passport Stamps: Family Membership/Membership Upgrade!

Food and Drinks

Concessions will be available on the Museum’s main level, the Hangar Deck.


The Museum has Accessible bathrooms on the Hangar Deck. Restrooms, or heads, are also available on the next deck below, though they are authentic Navy accommodations.


Parking is free throughout Alameda Point. The Museum’s parking lot is adjacent to her pier (pier parking is reserved for Museum staff and volunteers as well as Accessible Parking). CLICK HERE for further information about Driving Directions and Parking information.


The Museum is a National and State Historic Landmark, and as such retains its original steep stairs throughout the ship. Those guests who are mobility impaired will only have access to the main Hangar Deck and can access the Flight Deck if they are able to stand upright for a short time (going up and down an escalator). Splashdown Programming Participation Information

The Museum welcomes partners and sponsors for our many events and programs celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Man’s first steps on the Moon!

In particular, we are opening registration for organizations to participate in our July 20, 2019 community open house!

Participant Qualifications

1. All participants should be organizations with an educational focus or mission.
2. Participants must not charge a separate admission/workshop fee and may not sell anything without permission and discussion with the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum.
3. Any items necessary for your booth beyond a 6′ table and two chairs must be provided by the participants.
5. Information booths must have displays suitable for all ages
