Support the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum relies on the generosity of individuals, like you, to fund our educational programs, restoration projects, create and enhance exhibits and much more. The Museum is not supported in any way by regular grants from city, county, state or federal sources.

Your support will help continue the Hornets mission to educate visitors, young and old, about WWII, Naval Aviation, Space Exploration and beyond.

Many companies participate in a matching-gift program for charitable gifts made by their employees. Check with your employer’s Human Resources Department to see if your generosity will be made even greater through a match by your employer.

Donations of appreciated stock may be a tax-wise way to make a contribution. You may be able to make a larger donation than with a cash contribution and these gifts usually provide savings on capital gains taxes. Depending upon your individual tax situation, you may receive an income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stocks. Be sure to discuss this type of donation with your financial advisor or broker.

Visionary donors can ensure our plans to expand restoration efforts, improve and increase exhibits, and provide quality educational programs by including the USS Hornet Museum in your overall estate plan.

Include the USS Hornet Museum in your will in the following ways:

  • Designate a specific dollar amount to be directed to the USS Hornet Museum
  • Designate a specific percentage of your estate to be directed to the USS Hornet Museum
  • Designate the “remainder” portion of your estate that is left over after all other obligations and provisions have been addressed.

Professional financial advisors can provide you with additional estate planning options that are appropriate for your individual situation. Be sure to contact your own financial advisor or attorney to discuss any implications a charitable contribution may have on your taxes or final estate.

Matured Life Insurance Policy

If you own a paid up life insurance policy that is no longer needed for its original purposes, you may donate the policy to the donation programs by transferring ownership to Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation (our formal IRS designation). Generally, the donor will be entitled to an income tax deduction for the cash surrender value. Discuss this option with your insurance agent or financial advisor.

Real Estate

Given the dynamic real estate market over the past several years, a donation of real estate may be beneficial to you. The USS Hornet Museum will consider on a case-by-case basis accepting the gift of a home, vacation property, condominium, rental units, undeveloped land, or other real estate.

Affiliated Giving Programs

If you have a car, boat, RV, or trailer that you would like to donate to a worthy cause, please think about the Hornet.

All the paperwork (smog certificates, registration, etc.) will be handled for you. Your car will even be towed if it is not running. And, of course, you get a nice tax deduction for your donation.

The good people that run the Save Mart family stores (Lucky, Save Mart Supermarkets, S-Mart Foods, and FoodMaxx) have a donation program called S.H.A.R.E.S. (Supporting Humanities, Arts, Recreation, Education & Sports) that could not be easier to participate in.

Whenever you shop at any of the Save Mart stores mentioned above, just swipe the program card during checkout (before payment) and as much as 3% of your total purchase will be donated to the USS Hornet Museum. Certain items you may buy are not eligible for the donation calculation, such as event tickets, postage stamps, fuel, liquor discounts and sales tax. Your receipt will show the amount of the donation that will be forwarded to us on a quarterly basis.
